Inverness, Culloden, and Balnuaran of Clava

Drumnadrochit and Inverness formed the base for our excursions around that part of Scotland for a couple of days. We spent some time in Inverness itself, including making a run into a church to look around, of course, but most of our time was spent away from the city.

We did visit  the Culloden Battlefield and Visitor Centre, avoiding the souvenir shop, and we had a good time checking out the 4,000 year old Cairns at Balnuaran of Clava. Perhaps the biggest adventure was tracking down the Moniac Castle Winery, which wasn’t where we thought it was. We did try the various fruit-based wines, cordials, I guess, and enjoyed tasting their mead.

No photos of the cordials or the battlefield, but here are some of the Clava Cairns. They’re thumbnails, so click one to get a better look.
