Juniper 12
Juniperus chinensis ‘Shimpaku’

FEBRUARY 15, 2023. This was my last minute tree to take to the Jennifer Price workshop last weekend. On the second day, I took only my red pine, but there wasn’t anything she wanted me to do with it until I repotted it in April. Bummer. So I went home, grabbed this one and my large maple from Mark Comstock and headed back to Aldridge Gardens. I’m glad I had this one! She liked the little tree, especially Eli’s pot, and said nice things about how it was growing and healthy. She made a few suggestions about shaping the tree, and those suggestions mean that I don’t need to repot the tree at a new angle.  I did some cutting and wiring that she later checked out. I’m going to wait until I finish the new wiring to take another photo. Probably next week some time.

September 12, 2022. Some things never change. I still don’t really see the whole picture until I look at a photo of one of my trees. Today I got around to photoing this juniper, and now I’m not happy at all with the placement in the pot. Looking at it today, I’m ready to pull it out and reposition it tilted way over to the left as you look at it.

The good news is it’s looking healthy and seems like it will do well in this pot. Finally!

March 15, 2022. I don’t remember when I actually got this plant, but it’s been a while. Twice I bought batches of little shimpakus to play with, putting some into pots, some into the ground. Most of them were killed because I spent too much time twiddling with them. This one managed to survive, so it gets its own page.

I tried once before to put a juniper in the pot I got from Eli a few years ago. That one died. This one, from the same batch of plants, I guess, has a better chance. Fingers crossed.
