Cruising with Friends

Amsterdam to Budapest

Vienna

When we visited Vienna for the first time ten years ago, we wanted to see everything we could while we were there. We took the guided tours, we saw important places, we spent time in a museum, and I even stayed in the city center and had to take a train back to the ship. We’re older now, and the idea that we couldn’t possibly see everything we wanted to see in a one-day stop has fully sunk in. So we both stayed onboard in the morning.

However–I decided to go on the “Vienna Culinary Walking Tour” that afternoon. It’s not like there wasn’t a fine culinary experience onboard. But it was fun, even though we didn’t really follow the advertised pathway through the city. We stopped in a coffee house for coffee and cake, walked a lot, enjoyed beer and pretzels, sipped wine in a wine cellar, stopped for a lecture in the courtyard of one of the Esterhazy houses, and generally had a great time. I’m pretty sure that most tourists don’t go through some of the alleyways we did. 🙂

Below the photo gallery, there’s another extra video.

Ten years ago, the weather was cloudy almost the entire cruise, so we saw the “blue Danube” actually blue until the last day. Here’s a look at the Danube as we sailed away from Vienna.
