Wertheim
Like Rüdesheim, this was a town we’d never even heard of, much less thought about visiting, yet was a pleasant stop. We were there on a Sunday in a town that wasn’t a big city, wasn’t on most tourist itineraries, and one that offered a look at a part of Germany from a different angle. There was the almost obligatory guided walk through the old center of town and an optional climb up a hill to see the old castle–declined by all of us. We stopped at a local church with an interesting history where the altar guild was setting things up for the Eucharist to follow. That’s really local and made this small-town boy feel at home.
Trudy and I did take the offered opportunity to ride across the river, go along a “nature walk” along a ridge, then sit down for a wine tasting and pretzel-making demonstration.
